by Rita Clifton CBE, Chairman UK

We’re delighted to announce Rita’s role as a Judge and expert mentor in the new TV series ‘Pop Up Start Up’, with and CNBC.

The first of the 6 part series was transmitted on Friday, December 16th 2016, 10PM on CNBC. You can watch CNBC on Sky channel 505, Free Sat 210 and Virgin Media 613.

The series follows 12 aspiring manufacturing entrepreneurs who go head to head to win a £20,000 cash prize. In each episode, two candidates are given seed money and challenged to mass produce and sell their products in a pop up shop. Rita joins fellow mentors and judges, including pop up pioneer Roger Wade and Pete Wild from Goldman Sachs ‘10,000 Small Businesses’, to provide guidance and advice to the contestants on how to manufacture, import, market and sell the products. The contestant who has created the most potential value each week wins the £20,000 prize.

It was great fun and really stimulating to work on this new series. I was impressed by the drive and enthusiasm of these budding entrepreneurs, and how quickly many of them grasped the opportunity to build a brand as well as having a start up business idea. Branding is important to every business that wants to generate sustainable value, no matter how small or in whatever category.
